Whether you love it or hate it, we’re all stuck with the Newsstand app in our idevices. Since most of the content available for Newsstand is subscription-based, many iOS users find it very useless and try to hide it using a number of jailbreak tweaks. That’s right, there are a number of jailbreak tweaks specifically made to hide the darn app…
However, for those who don’t want to hide it, we have an alternative for you: Booksstand. This new jailbreak tweak allows you to move iBooks into the Newsstand and have both your magazines and iBooks in one spot! If you’re a fan of Apple’s iBooks, than you’ll really enjoy having your books in the simple folder-looking icon that Newsstand provides.
The tweak, which was designed by developer Nikos Lykousas, allows users to move their iBooks (selectively) into Newsstand. When moving the files into Newsstand, you’re actually creating a shortcut to the book located in iBooks, so you can access the files from both apps. This may seem kind of useless to some, but the integration of both magazines and books in one spot is actually very nice. Here is a video by iPodUPlink showcasing the tweak:
You can import both iBooks and PDF files straight to the Newsstand icon. However, you can’t delete books from the iBooks app without having them disappear from the Newsstand icon, as they share the same files. When you open a book from Newsstand, it launches the book in iBooks.
So there you have it folks! You can hide your iBooks app in favor of having both your magazines and books in one easy place for the price of $0.99. You can find the Booksstand tweak in the Big Boss repo. Check it out!
