One of my favorite things about the iPhone is the volume switch on the side. Instead of unlocking my phone and manually clicking the volume buttons to turn up or turn down my device, I can simply switch from sound to silent and vice versa with the switch. However, sometimes it’s easy to forget that your iPhone is still on silent. And often times we’re not even reminded until we miss a call or text message. Thus, a developer has just made a our lives a little easier by creating a cool jailbreak tweak that lets us know we’re on silent mode right on the display…

A developer who goes by the interesting name La bla bla has just released MuteIcon, a free tweak on Cydia that places an icon on the status bar to remind you that your on silent mode. The icon remains in the status bar until you turn silent mode off.

While another tweak, OpenNotifier, has been known to have the same feature, it currently does not support iOS 6.1. Furthermore, reports of a nasty bug in OpenNotifier have been seen, stating that the tweak leaves the mute icon in your status bar even after turning silent mode off. MuteIcon however, is fully functional and works with Apple’s latest iOS 6.1.
