MxTube is a free (donations requested), ad-supported application that lets users stream and, more interestingly, download hi- and low-res YouTube videos. The application gets a solid 7 / 10 because it works--I was able to download and save Soulja Boy's Turn My Swag On--and the price is right. When you start the application, there are two functions: you can conduct a very basic search or watch a previously downloaded video. That's it. Unlike the native YouTube app, MxTube has no "Most Viewed", "Featured", or "History" functions.

There's really no reason for this to be a standalone application. Even the developer of MxTube recommends on his blog that users take a look at YourTube, which simply adds download functionality to the YouTube app. Unfortunately, YourTube 2 for iOS 4 costs $5 (look out for our review coming soon). So, if your dying to show your friends that merengue dancing dog, and you think 3G service will be spotty, MxTube might be the cheapest and easiest way to bring the magic to them.
