Select Apple Stores have begun to lift their incredibly strict pricing policies. Up until recently it was unheard of to be able to request a price match in Apple retail locations. But according to new reports, specific Apple stores can offer ‘special prices’ of up to ten percent off of specific items. Due to the supply of iPad mini Retina and iPhone 5s handsets being low, the discounts only apply to items in plenty, such as the iPhone 5c.
T-Mobile is planning to offer the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c for free on Black Friday. Of course you’ll be required to pay an addition $20 dollars a month for two years to pay for the phone. But these are great up-front savings for people fond of T-Mobile. If you do the math though it’s often times still a better deal to just buy a phone outright. But who has that kind of spare change lying around? Check out more details on the next page.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Foxconn is producing 500k iPhone 5s per day, providing 100 of its assembly lines to specifically produce iPhone 5s handsets. Creating them 24 hours a day, 300,000 employees are dedicated to producing the iPhone 5s, and the 5s only. Wow. This rush of production was to match or exceed the lack of supply the incredible demand for the new handset has created.
So according to new data compiled by Business Insider, for every $1 app purchase by iOS developers, Android developers earn $0.19. So yeah iPhone users are willing to spend more money on applications. I’d like to say it’s because iPhone users generally have more money, but in this day and age that’s hardly true. Top of the line Android devices are often times more expensive than select iPhone models.
A new Apple patent discusses the use of light-field cameras within a mobile device, or as a companion to an existing device. Made famous first by Lytro cameras, seen in the image at the top of the next page, light-field cameras take dozens of different photos from different perspectives in a single shot, this gives the use the ability to dynamically focus the image. Imagine the image you’re capturing being broken up into a grid, with each sector being it’s own focusable image. Check out more info on the next page.
A recent Chinese headline is catching the eye of bloggers everywhere, a thief in China wrote out ’11 pages’ of phone numbers from the contacts list and returned the contacts to the owner, but not the phone. Which is weird, you’d have to assume the thief has no idea what cloud storage is. But wasn’t that thoughtful of them?
Incipio released its waterproof case last year around this time, called the Atlas. This time around, in honor of the iPhone 5s, Incipio added a touch sensor friendly material over the Home button, and called the case the Atlas ID. Not only is this case using tempered glass, instead of Lifeproof/Otterbox plastic approach, but they offer a one-year limited warranty for any water damage. Check out the video inside.
Android is on a lot of devices, and we all know it, it’s a free, open source, operating system, why wouldn’t it be thrown into everything from soda machines to glasses. Well Apple’s proprietary option isn’t in billions of devices, but it is the most profitable mobile operating system. The developers make more money when they develop for iOS, and they don’t have to deal with the OS fragmentation that Android presents. This is all obvious stuff for most of our readers, check out some fun graphs inside.
