Apple’s next iPhone has been rumored to come in two different sizes: one with a 4.7-inch screen and the other with a larger 5.5-inch screen. While there are some people who love the current iPhone’s size, there’s no question about it – the industry is moving towards larger devices. At this point, every major Android manufacturer’s flagship phone has a screen size of 4.7-inches or more. Thus, it is only a matter of time before Apple jumps into the “phablet” market.
So what would a larger iPhone look like? Well, I’m personally hoping that it takes a new approach to its exterior design. Having the large home button on the iPhone forces it to have these huge bezels on the top and bottom of the device. It makes for a needlessly tall smartphone, when there are other competitors with larger screens in smaller packages. Take for example Motorola’s Moto X, which has a 4.7-inch screen in an overall size very similar to the current iPhone 5s’ size. Unfortunately, thanks to the iPhone’s Touch ID, it’s extremely unlikely that Apple would do away with the home button.
If Apple decides to keep the current design on the iPhone and throw on a 4.7-inch screen, here are some examples of what it may look like stacked up next to its competitors:
It is rumored that the Apple will move the Power button from the top of the device to the right side of the device to make it easier for one-handed use with the larger screen.
What do you think? We’re interesting in hearing your thoughts on a larger iPhone. Is there a better approach to the TouchID button on the bottom bezel or do you like the longer look of the phone? Let us know in the comments section below!
